Homeopathy was developed by a German doctor named Samuel Hahnemann. He was unhappy with the harsh medical treatments of his time, like bloodletting and toxic drugs, which often did more harm than good. While studying, he discovered that a substance causing symptoms in a healthy person could help treat similar symptoms in someone who is sick—if given in a very small dose. He called this idea “like cures like.” For example, onions cause watery eyes and runny nose in their natural form. If the onion is prepared homeopathically (highly diluted), the homeopathic remedy made from onions, Allium cepa, treats watery eyes and runny noses in people who are unwell.
Hahnemann began experimenting with natural substances, carefully diluting them to make them gentle yet effective. This marked the beginning of homeopathy. Over time, his ideas spread across Europe and to many other parts of the world, where homeopathy became a popular form of natural medicine.
